Life Care Center of Hilliard, Florida, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, recently achieved a deficiency-free state survey.
To pass the state survey each year, nursing facilities must meet hundreds of criteria. These address not only nursing care and resident safety, but also patients’ rights, food services, administration and the facility’s environment.
Billy Schmelzer, certified occupational therapist at Life Care Center of Hilliard, Florida, takes extra steps to encourage her patients. Schmelzer takes note of what her patients are interested in and comes up with ideas that they would enjoy while still helping with their therapy. She made a fishing game for a patient who was an avid fisherman, bought a cat puzzle for a patient who loved cats and created a matching game with old movie stars whom patients would recognize.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a facility, we at Life Care Center of Hilliard, Florida, have treated patients with breast cancer.
We also have a co-worker who is a survivor. Tracey Green has been cancer-free for one year, and she let us be involved in her journey to recovery. We shared tears and joy as she faced the hard times and then the healing.
